Simile #2

Simile:

As crazy as a loon.

Concept:

(Truth/Facts): Loons appear crazy but they are actually trying to protect themselves, their nesting ground, and their offspring.

Explanation/Discussion:

An aggressive encounter taking place between two loons involves their bills as their primary weapon. The loons will swim in circles, look under water, and jerk their heads; they will occasionally splash dive into the water. Loons are very protective of their nests and will guard against humans, other animals and more specifically, other loons.
